One of three facilities Burton Engineering has designed for Pike, Pike Nurseries in Matthews is a 10,000 SF retail nursery with 30,000 SF of greenhouses that sits on an environmentally challenging 4-acre site. Surrounded by two converging streams with a high bedrock level and 35 feet of grade change, site design and constructability were improved by a stream crossing, sanitary sewer relocation, and retaining walls that included culverts. Buffer planting mitigation alongside extensive tree save enhanced the nursery’s relationship to the surrounding natural environment.
